Valentine’s Day in the classroom can be such a special experience—but it can also feel overwhelming if we try to do everything. At Endless Explorers Club, we believe explorers learn best in environments that feel safe, joyful, and intentional. That’s why when it comes to Valentine’s Day, I always plan with one guiding principle in mind: keep it simple and meaningful.
Our explorers don’t need an over-the-top party to feel celebrated. What they really need is structure, connection, and opportunities to show kindness to one another. With that in mind, here’s how I plan Valentine’s Day activities in a way that feels calm, fun, and manageable for everyone.
Start the Day with a Shared Experience
I like to begin Valentine’s Day in the afternoon, when lunch and recess is out of the way. I start by playing a fun, age-appropriate video or movie. This gives our explorers a shared experience and helps set the tone for the day. Watching something together sparks conversation, curiosity, and laughter—three things explorers thrive on. It’s also a gentle way to ease into the day without immediately jumping into high-energy activities.
Keep Learning Hands-On and Engaging
Next, we move into a simple craft or activity book. Explorers love having something they can work on independently while still feeling excited and successful. I always choose activities that encourage creativity without being complicated or time-consuming. (I use a Valentine-themed activity book that works beautifully for this and will be linking it for teachers who want an easy option.)
Decorate Lunch Bags for Valentine Cards
One of my favorite traditions is having students decorate brown paper lunch bags. These become their Valentine holders for the day. This activity is simple, affordable, and meaningful—and it gives explorers ownership over their space. The lunch bags also help keep everything organized, which is a win for both students and teachers.
Keep Snacks Simple and Stress-Free
When it comes to food, less is more. I choose one or two simple snacks for the class and provide juice boxes myself. This keeps the focus on celebrating together rather than managing lots of food options. Simple snacks help the day feel special without becoming overwhelming.
A Calm and Thoughtful Valentine Exchange
To pass out Valentine cards, we slow things down. Explorers pass out their cards one at a time, placing them directly into each classmate’s decorated lunch bag. This routine encourages patience, kindness, and inclusion—values we emphasize as part of the explorer mindset. It also keeps the classroom calm and ensures every student feels seen and included.
Why This Works
By the end of the day, our explorers have had time to create, share, and celebrate without feeling rushed or overstimulated. Valentine’s Day becomes less about the “stuff” and more about the experience—showing kindness, building community, and learning how to celebrate others.
At Endless Explorers Club, we believe explorers ask questions, try new things, and care for the people around them. Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to reinforce those values in a way that feels joyful and doable.
